There were times when Sam was glad she had such a busy job. It was hard for her to focus on the drama laden turn her romantic life had taken when there patients to check, tests to run, and the start of the holiday traffic accidents (with only 8 days left until Christmas) keeping the waiting room packed to the rafters. However, when she stopped, for anything at all, the thoughts started creeping back. It was strange. Rick was the one that lied and yet she was the one that had a door closed in her face and jumping every time she got a txt message. It was never him. Maybe he was giving her time or space but Sam got the feeling her suspicions about how he felt about Nicole Callahan were right.

It was possible he wasn't even aware of it, not consciously anyway. It was just so hard to imagine Rick, her puppy and self proclaimed hero to the down trodden intentionally using her. Even if that's exactly what she accused him of.

Sam had a temper. It was a feircesome thing that rarely stopped enough to let her think before she spoke. When she hurt she wanted to hurt back, sometimes even physically. Sam was a fighter. She'd claw and bite and snap and tear a person apart until she was too tired to do anymore. Then, after she had some time to cool off, she could some damage control but only if she thought she was the one in the wrong. Which wasn't very often. In fact, she hated apologizing. It was a little too close to admitting she was wrong. As far as she was concerned, her anger was usually justified. Afterall, she wasn't some crazy person that lashed out for nothing. Someone had to instigate it.

Rick had lied. She gave him every reason in the world to be honest and he lied. Even after he was caught he first tried to make it sound like he didn't have much control in the matter. The girl in his apartment decided she wanted sex and Nicole had forced her sex touch thing on him. According to him he was practically an innocent bystander. He was a puppy but she wasn't fucking stupid. By the time he admitted that he wanted a relationship with Nicole and she knocked him back, Sam was ready to think the worst. Ready to believe that he'd been scamming her from the start. That every affectionate moment, every tender word softly spoken was part of some devious plot to try and make Matt's sister jealous. But that wasn't Rick.

It was more likely that he did still like Nicole. He was still hurt that she didn't consider him boyfriend material even if she had no problem sleeping with him. It might have even been part of what made him push so hard with Sam for them to date. He didn't want to just be a fuck buddy. He wanted to be boyfriend material. He wanted it so bad he was willing to wait a year and a half for a girl he barely knew but was starting to like. It wasn't malicious even if it was misleading. And it still boiled down to 2 things. The first was that he lied and he was good enough at it that she didn't even suspect. The second was that there was no way to know if his feelings for her were real or if he was just so eager to prove he could be a boyfriend that he attached himself the very next girl that stuck her hand down his pants.
